I am grateful for Ash Wednesday and Lent. I really enjoy this part of the church season. I was raised a Baptist and was not familiar with Lent until I married into the Lutheran church. I enjoy the time of reflection, the invitation to examine our lives and the great gift we were given on the cross. A portion of the liturgy in today's service speaks to me:
we are called to a discipline that contends against evil and resists whatever leads us away from love of God and neighbor.
I know that I need to be reminded of this, every day and I am grateful God is so patient with me when I forget over and over again.
