A little background is needed for this story. I love Jimmy Stewart. I love his movies. Jimmy Stewart reminds me of my father. They were both tall and lanky and similar looking. They both spoke slowly and deliberately and had many of the same mannerisms. My hubby knows this. On Valentine's Day he gave me a package with a note that read :
" I'm impressed with all the good stories you shared with me re your Dad. May this small gift make you smile when you look at it."
I opened the package to find this pane of stamps framed.
I looked at it trying to relate this to the note I had just read and must have had puzzled look on my face and Hubby says "It's Jimmy Stewart!" I said "Its Gary Cooper!" Hubby takes the frame and says "No!, I could have sworn I picked up Jimmy Stewart!"
Everyone I have told this story to agrees with me that this so David! I also know that I will never forget this present and as it hangs on the wall, it does make me smile. It reminds me of two very special men in my life.

Saturday Smiles
I have worked quite a few hours this week, had a couple long commutes because of the snowstorm we had mid-week so I haven't spent much time in the kitchen. This morning as the sun was shining on my refrigerator I noticed two perfect little hand prints left last week when Kaiden was here.
I also smiled as I was rolling out bread dough for cinnamon rolls. One of the handles of my mother's rolling pin broke off years before I was born. I learned to use a rolling pin with one hand on the handle and one on the cylinder. My rolling pin has two handles but I only use one. When I catch myself doing that, I think of my Mom and smile.
Hope you all have something to smile about this Saturday.

Snow Pants
This morning we woke up to snow. The forecast is for 5-10 inches before the storm ends tomorrow morning. As I was dressing in slacks to go to work, I thought about how much easier it was to get ready to go out into the snow than when I was a little girl.
I grew up in a time when girls wore dresses to school.
Everyday.
No exceptions.
Even when it snowed.
So, when it snowed or was really cold, we wore snow pants under our dresses. We also wore overshoes. When we got to school we had to take our overshoes off and at least one of your shoes would come off too. Then you took off your snow pants and hung them up with your coat. Then you had to put your shoes back on. Then at recess you had to do it all over.
Girls my children's age never had this experience, they could wear pants to school and boots. But then there are quite a few girls that age that have never learned how to sit when they wear a dress much less how to climb on playground equipment in one!

One Year Ago
One year ago today, surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and his church family, Kaiden was baptised.
I am so proud of his parents, they are keeping their promise. They bring him to church. They put his hands together to pray. His father takes him to the front for Children's Sermon. It is true that at this point he is more interested in the kids, but a habit is being formed.
I am so proud.

Bunny Ears and The Best Wedding Photo
As I was going through pictures last week trying to find a picture of me and my mother, I noticed we have reoccurring themes in our family photos. Our family loves to make bunny ears. Like this one where I am pretty sure I was aware my brother was making the ears
and this one that was snapped just as my brother and sister were either getting ready to make the ears or were just done
and this one that was snapped just as my brother and sister were either getting ready to make the ears or were just done
The other theme we have is one we call the Best Wedding Photo. I'm not sure how or when this started, but I'm pretty sure my oldest sister was the instigator. The photo below of my nephew and his wife is an example. At some point the bride is asked to put the flowers in front of the groom's face and we all declare it
And then we all laugh!

Good Friends
I have good friends. I mean really good friends. We got together with John and Janice, Gary and Vivien on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. I received these packages. The gift bag is one Janice and I have passed back and forth for the last 8 years on our birthdays. The box was from Gary and Vivien and it is elegant enough to be a gift on its own. What was inside was truly amazing. You might remember this post where I wrote about some kitchen items. The post where I said there were a couple items I really wanted, but couldn't justify buying, the post where I didn't say where these items were.
Well, it seems they have been going to stores they know I like and to stores they thought might have these items. They looked online. They divided the stores and even sent a husband to search. And guess what? I received these measuring cups. They are not exactly like the ones I saw, but I like these better.
